Antique Cars and More - TACM

Sometimes my muggle job affords me a few opportunities to combine my love for adventure and my enjoyment of having funding for those adventures. One such event, recently, was when we booked the Antique Car Museum for a workshop. This gave me an opportunity to scope out the museum, which I had never visited before.

Tallahassee's Antique Car Museum is situated on the outskirts of the state's capital city, but it seems most of the visitors, at least when I was there, were not locals but rather travelers stopping by off of the super close I-10 interstate. I personally have lived in and around this area for 41 years and can't remember a time I ever visited. RJ noted that he remembered visiting when it was much smaller and located closer to town...

...... in the long long ago, in the before time! Ya know, because he is OLD.

Not only is it kind of out of sight and out of mind being it is on the far east side of town, but old cars are just not something that I would seek out on my own. I am also on the edge of enjoying seeing life as it was 'back in the day' and all the history that comes with these machines of old and feeling a little sad for the cars. They sit there all pretty and shiny, boasting more horsepower than some modern-day transportation options, but confined to a showroom floor. It almost feels like you have a sleek and powerful stallion that you keep in a stall because you don't want it to sweat. Just seems wrong in some ways.

Despite my bemusing's on the subject, I was still excited to get to walk among some of the great models of yester-year. But what got me was all the NON CAR related stuff. I had no idea the Antique Car Museum was more than cars. Sure I figured a few scattered relics from the past would be included, but all car related, but nothing had prepared me for the treasure trove of history contained within this building. Which is slightly odd since that is the first thing you see on their website (tacm.com) "It's More Than A Museum... It's A Journey Through History".

I found it intriguing at the wide variety of things in this museum. And even more surprised that it was just a few trinkets here or there. There were massive collections of unique things from an old Linotype machine to countless cabinets of chinaware, dolls, sports memorabilia and even a collection of juke boxes and antique pianos.

I didn't even know that there was so much history involved in GOLF. Baseball was always a favorite of my dad's and I enjoyed the time spent watching the Atlanta Braves play, so you bet I got a little nostalgic at the baseball card collections, signed balls and even an old candlelight movie of Babe Ruth.

However, I did feel a little shook when things started showing up that I remembered from my childhood. Why are these things in a MUSEUM! I am not that old. I mean I can sort of understand Fred and Dino but the Powerpuff Girls, Chucky and don't even get me started on those Spice Girls dolls! I had those, and the New Kids on the Block guys to go with it. And I still to this day watch Star Trek (all off them but TNG is definitely the winner). I think some of this stuff should come with a disclaimer. Like "These are not here because they are old, just because they are super cool."

And even though there were lots of things to check out, there were more cars than you can shake a fist at. Don't forget about the second floor. That is where this Jeep girl started to get into it!

All jokes aside, I would not be doing this awesome site any justice if I didn't mention the Batmobile, or mobiles. That is correct. Tallahassee Car Museum is home to not one, but three of the Batmobiles. They also house several other items from both the movies and the original TV series. Which just makes me think of Adam West's "I'm Batman", line. ICONIC!

From Shelby Mustangs to Coupe De Villes and the Trans AM special Edition, and everything in between and outside. The Tallahassee Car Museum is a fantastic walk-through history that will surely make you smile and giggle and think back to a simpler time and place.

It was just more than I ever imagined and even after walking around for more than an hour, I didn't see everything. I am definitely going to return and maybe even let RJ and the Boy Child tag along. And while I took many photos, so much was still left to see. Get yourself and your favorite person or people, and get to this museum, whether you are a local or just passing through. It will not disappoint.
