An Adventure back in time: Abbeville, Alabama

Ever wonder what it would be like to live in an era from the past? I certainly have, and boy was I excited for the discovery of a little town that allows you to do just that.

Welcome, adventurers and fellow time travelers, to Abbeville, Alabama – where nostalgia reigns supreme and the spirit of the 1950s is alive and thriving! In a whimsical twist of fate, this charming town has been magically transported back to the golden era of poodle skirts, soda fountains, and sock hops. So grab your saddle shoes and join us on a journey through time as we explore this delightful slice of retro paradise.

Imagine my delight when I drive into town to be greated with a gas station that looked like it came from a movie. My little photo happy heart lept for joy because it was so unique and cute, I must take pictures of it.

After taking a few pictures I headed on down the road only to find more of these buildings with the neon signs and retro look. Okay now you have my undivided attention and yes please show me more. I found a spot in the quaint little downtown area to park. With a fresh battery, I had my camera in hand and starting walking, leaving Rubix behind glowing under one of these retro signs.

Strolling along the side walk in downtown Abbieville I felt as though I had stepped onto the set of a classic Hollywood film. Vintage signs lined the street, while colorful storefronts beckon with promises of old-fashioned charm and hospitality. I felt like any moment two scrappy teenage boys in leather jacks, cuffed jeans and slicked back hair would come bouncing out of a store with cigarette tucked behind their ear.

Bank of Henry County

It was clear that the town is making efforts to restore historical buildlings as I watched a group working on one of the buildings. Stacks of lumber lined the road nearby and I noticed fresh paint on a restored Sinclair gas station. Even the historical Bank of Henry had found new life as the Abbeville Chamber of Commerce.

The store fronts were decorated with retro themed trinkets that allow you to immerse yourself in the sights and feel like what it must have been like walking this very sidewalk in the 50's. From vintage signs, to pedal cars, to those cute car shaped seats that you would espect to see in a barber shop of the time. There was even a vintage stove that looked like it was ready to be picked out by a passerby and added to their home.

And what would a 1950's style town be if it didn't have it's own soda fountain shop. Stepping into Huggin Molly's was like opening the door to a childhood memory (though I am not quite old enough to have experienced the 50's). Somehow it felt like home, I have never wanted to wear a poodle skirt so bad in my life. The classic red and chrome bar stools with the black and white floor and even the mirror behind the bar, all of it just felt right. And the food, the glorious food! Was absolutely phonenamal and that old style sourthern charm was also on display, as the staff were absolutely the best. I dare someone to eat here and have a bad experience because it just can't happen.

But Abbeville isn't just about reliving the past – it's also a vibrant community filled with friendly faces and warm hospitality. The architecture and history of this little town was nothing but remarkable, even without the neon lights. A leisurly stroll along the quiet streets revealed stunning architectual creations.

As the sun sets on our adventure in Abbeville, take a moment to reflect on the magic of this enchanting town. Whether you're sipping a malt at the soda fountain or just soaking in the rich history of the town, one thing is certain – in Abbeville, every day is a trip down memory lane.

Review more photos below but don't think this is all that was available. Some things should be left to be viewed for yourself, so make sure you put this one on your adventure list.
